The O'Reilly Theater was designed by world-renowned architect Michael Graves. With Turner Construction Company serving as construction manager, the theater was completed on time and under budget, and opened on December 9, 1999. The dramatically distinctive O'Reilly Theater features a thrust stage with 650 tiered audience seats on three sides and utilizes state-of-the-art theater technology. It has a curved and sloping interior with over 40,000 square feet of special curly maple veneer that was hand selected by the architect and factory finished at Wyatt's millshop prior to installation. All panels were installed in a mechanical "lock together" sequenced fashion with no exposed fasteners, as required by the architect. Special wood railing systems were installed at the upper levels with curved sloping curly soffit panels.
